Rant! CW's "The Game" Cancelled

CW's "The Game" has been canceled after three seasons.

Now a lot of Black people are all pissed and have decided they are no longer going to watch the CW; however, once again, I think this is a prime example of misguided protest.

1) The show only had a 0.7 rating in it's demographic during the third season. People were all fired up about getting people to watch the show after they learned there was a chance it would be canceled but they should have been watching it faithfully in the first place if they cared so much about it. You know what they say..."you don't know what you got, until it's gone."

2) What is not watching shows on the CW going to do? Most of the Black people who tuned into the CW only did it to watch The Game or Everybody Hates Chris. Since those will both be gone...you wouldn't be watching the CW anyway. Zero effectiveness.

3) Maybe someone should create a network just for Black people...oh wait...there already is one. And look at all those quality program's BET produces.

All I'm saying is that writing letters to the network demanding more Black shows would probably be a much better idea than just not watching the CW at all. It's all about supply and demand.

I know that I will definitely be tuning in to the CW this fall to get my fix of "Gossip Girl". Did anyone see that season finale??? Bomb!

I'm sad to see it go but fact of the matter is the storyline was going in circles and starting to get boring. If it had continued, I was hoping they would bring in some new writers that could put a different spin on it.

I'm not surprised it had a 0.7 rating.. I mean it aired on Friday at 8:30... ? The only time I caught it on TV was the season finale.. I either watched it on the CW site or youtube... BET should just pick it up

I watched one episode of The Game....can't say I was disappointed. But as a whole, the amount of black shows is at probably an all-time low. And you're right, not watching the CW has no effectiveness at all.

Great post! I agree with you on all points. The Game's 'baby mama drama' storyline was starting to get old - that's why I stopped watching. I'm more upset about "Girlfriends" being cancelled. Still.
BTW - I'll be tuning in to the CW for Smallville - bet on it!

Too bad they canned the Game. Can't blame the viewers on this one. It gradually got better so it's not a matter of knowing how great a show is until it's gone. As for zero effectiveness, HA! It's been proven time and time again, when a nation of people are united for a common cause, it's effective! And why does this have to be a black or white thing? And who took a poll and discovered only one race tuned into this show anyway? LOL..this is truly comical!

@ U My Sista Girl: I wondered who still watched Smallville, but apparently more people watch that than Gossip Girl and 90210!

@ LiveLoveLaugh: If a show has millions of viewers on a consistent basis, it's not going to get canceled, no matter how good or dumb the show is (90210). The Game's viewership constantly went down season after season, which is why it got thrown on the Friday line up and ultimately canceled. So it really didn't matter how good it was getting, because people didn't watch it and now it's gone.

And it is true when people unite, they can make a difference. However, l noticed that most people who were talking about not watching the CW anyway only watched the Game, so their viewership wouldn't be missed. If people united and wrote letters to the CW demanding more black shows, that would be more effective.

And it doesn't have to be a black and white thing. My personal take on it is that it was a good show that ran for 3 seasons, viewership went down, it got canceled. The End. But people are ranting talking about how racist the CW is for not promoting their shows with a mainly black cast as opposed to those w/ a mainly white cast.

@MizzBlaze Agreed..on all points.

Well I loved this show! It was hilarious and so true. My boyfriend bestfriend and his brother are in the nba and it is very similar to The Game. The drama, the women, the drinking all true and it made a great show imo.

Well, I would like to think that the game was a quality enough show to not be placed in a box as "the black show that only black people watch". Come on...it was a good show. Anybody can relate to the ideals of love, lost love and mistakes made. I think all ethnic groups should watch televison shows with cast of all types...because we all have stories to tell. One thing to consider is how much promotion The Game recieved...barely any if you ask me...while the Gossip Girls were talked about on every entertainment show under the sun...There has always been a lack of money put behind promotion when it comes to black television...George Lopez and Ugly Betty, Gossip Girls all got and get plenty. I would also like to add it would be great to see Asian on television as well...and I would hope that we would all tune into their stories...because all of OUR stories are relevent, funny, dramatic and worth knowing about...however ghetto they might seem...the bottom line is promotion people...lack of promotion
